This qualification reflects the role of personal trainers who have specialist skills to train individual clients, or groups of clients, on a one-on-one or group basis, to improve health-related components of fitness in relatively low risk situations. This may include training of older clients and children.

They have a substantial depth of knowledge to plan, conduct and evaluate exercise training; provide leadership and guidance to clients and other staff; and deal with unpredictable situations applying defined guidelines and procedures from the fitness industry and the organisation.

They work independently or with limited guidance from others and use discretion to solve non-routine problems, including monitoring and managing business activities to operate efficiently and profitably.

Training Package Entry requirements:

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who hold a current first aid and CPR certificate and have been recognised as competent through a recognised training program or recognition process against the following units of competency:

  • SISFFIT001 Provide health screening and fitness orientation
  • SISFFIT002 Recognise and apply exercise considerations for specific populations
  • SISFFIT003 Instruct fitness programs
  • SISFFIT004 Incorporate anatomy and physiology principles into fitness programming
  • SISFFIT005 Provide healthy eating information
  • SISFFIT006 Conduct fitness appraisals
  • SISFFIT014 Instruct exercise to older clients
  • SISXCCS001 Provide quality service

CMI Entry Requirements: 

Age:

  • All students must of the age of 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission

English language requirements:

  • Entry into this course requires IELTS band score of 5.5 or equivalent (Results should not be older than 2 years)
  1. Evidence that they have studied in English for at least five years in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United Statesor
  2. Evidence that, within two years of their application date, they have successfully completed in Australia a foundation courses or a senior secondary certificate of education or a substantial part of a Certificate IV or higher-level qualification, from the Australian Qualifications Framework.
  • Please note: CMI will also accept equivalent test results from the following specified English language tests - TOEFL IBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) and TOEFL PBT.

Academic requirements:

To enter this qualification, applicants should have successfully completed year 12 or secondary studies in applicant’s home country equivalent to Australian senior secondary school examination.

or

Mature age students will also be considered without the minimum education requirements but with relevant work experience within chosen area of study and a demonstrated capacity to meet course requirements.

Pre-training review:

Prior to course commencement, each student is required to complete a Pre-training review and LLN Test. The purpose of this review is to ensure each student is enrolled in and has the capacity to successfully complete their chosen course. Each Pre-training review and LLN is specifically targeted at the appropriate AQF level of the course. LLN test will be conducted on campus by using an ACSF (Level 4) mapped online LLN assessment tool - LLN Robot - under the supervision of qualified LLN assessor.

Pathways from the qualification

Upon achieving this qualification students apply for SIS50212 Diploma of Fitness or other VET qualifications from any other RTO/Tafe/university.

 

Employment Pathway

Upon achieving this qualification students may gain employment (examples) as a Group fitness instructor, Personal trainer etc.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is an assessment process for giving candidates credit for skills, knowledge and experience gained through working and learning. It can be gained through formal and informal learning, in Australia or overseas.

Course credit is provided to students for previously completed units of competency, where these are evidenced by:

  • AQF Certification issued by another RTO or
  • Authenticated VET Transcripts
